Custom Inserts Built Into Dovetail Drawer Boxes
Your drawer insert takes shape with the drawer box itself. We build the dividers directly into a made-to-size dovetail drawer, and the finished order arrives with the insert already in place.
Enter the actual outside height, width, and depth of the drawer box when you order. Those dimensions drive the box and the insert fitted inside it. Eagle drawer boxes use half-blind dovetail construction and are built to the nearest 1/16 inch with a tolerance of plus or minus 1/32 inch.
The product grid shows six built-in options for common storage needs and custom layouts. Choose the closest match there, then use the specifications below to plan the box, divider height, and any drawing your order requires.
Choose the Right Drawer Insert
Start with the contents of the drawer and the amount of separation they need.
The Cutlery Insert uses fixed compartments spaced approximately 3 to 4 inches apart. The Utensil Insert provides larger compartments for cooking utensils. The Cutlery/Utensil Insert combines both standard layouts in one drawer.
The Knife Block Insert adds built-in slots for knives. Its standard block is 1-1/4 inches high by 16 inches wide by 12 inches deep and can be fitted to the drawer dimensions.
The Spice Drawer Insert holds jars in angled rows. These rows sit loose so you can lift them out for cleaning. A typical 21-inch drawer holds about four rows, and the final arrangement follows the order specifications.
Choose Custom Dividers for a compartment arrangement beyond the five standard insert styles. You specify the divider arrangement with a reference image or drawing, and Eagle builds that layout into the drawer box.
Wood Species, Divider Thickness & Insert Height
Maple, white oak, and walnut are the standard wood species for custom drawer inserts. Other species are available by request and may require a longer lead time.
Standard dividers are 3/8 inch thick and fixed in place. Insert height typically finishes approximately 1/2 to 1 inch below the drawer wall. Standard compartment spacing applies unless you specify another layout.
A 4-inch-high drawer is typical for an insert, although the design and your specifications set the final height. Full-height dividers require a custom request and a drawing. Put any other change to the standard spacing or divider arrangement in the order-form Notes so it can be checked with the box dimensions.
Measurements, Drawings & Repeat Orders
Use the actual outside drawer-box dimensions for your order. The cabinet opening and slide clearance determine those finished box measurements. Follow the drawer measuring instructions for the deductions required by your slide type.
Select Custom Dividers for a fully custom arrangement or a mixed layout, such as knife storage beside cutlery compartments. Describe the arrangement in the order-form Notes. Full-height dividers also belong in a custom request.
Every Custom Dividers order requires a reference image or drawing. Eagle requests the drawing when you approve the quote, and supporting pictures or diagrams can be sent to info@eaglewoodworking.com. A drawing may also be required for another mixed or nonstandard configuration.
Submit the layout again when you place a later order. The original specifications carry forward only when the new order is a remake of an existing order. Keeping your drawing with the job record makes the next submission easier to prepare.

Custom Drawer Inserts FAQ
What is the typical lead time?
Lead time varies with current order volume. Drawers are typically ready in 1 to 1.5 weeks. The current timing for your order appears on the quote and order acknowledgement.
Which wood species are available for custom drawer inserts?
Maple, white oak, and walnut are standard. Other species can be requested and may require a longer lead time.
Can Eagle build a layout beyond the standard insert options?
Select Custom Dividers and describe the arrangement in the order-form Notes. A reference image or drawing is required. This option can also combine insert styles, such as knife storage beside cutlery compartments. Send supporting diagrams to info@eaglewoodworking.com.
Will a custom divider layout carry over to a future order?
Specify the custom divider layout again on each future order. A remake of an existing order is the exception. Keep the original drawing with your job records so it is ready to submit again.
How do I measure for a drawer box with a custom insert?
Order using the actual outside dimensions of the drawer box. Follow the drawer measuring instructions for the deductions required by your slide type. Three team members review every quote or order, and Eagle will contact you if a specification needs clarification.
Do custom drawer inserts work with every drawer size and configuration?
Each insert is planned with its custom drawer box. The requested dimensions and layout must provide enough room for the selected insert. Eagle reviews nonstandard configurations before production and contacts you when a specification needs clarification.
What divider thickness and height are standard?
Standard dividers are 3/8 inch thick. Insert height is typically approximately 1/2 to 1 inch below the drawer wall. Full-height dividers require a custom request and drawing.
Do I install the insert separately from the drawer box?
The insert arrives built directly into the custom drawer box as one unit. Installing the drawer box also places the insert because it is already built in.
How do I order a custom drawer insert online?
Use the Drawers Order Form. Enter the outside drawer-box dimensions and select the insert as a Drawer Option on the same line. Submitting the form starts a quote for the drawer box and its built-in insert.
