Choose Wood and Panel Materials for the Finish

Eagle keeps 3/4-inch maple paint grade, maple stain grade, and white oak in stock for wood cabinet doors. Maple paint grade is the standard wood choice for painted applications. Choose stain-grade maple or white oak when the grain will remain visible. Walnut, red oak, cherry, and other requested species may be available with a longer lead time.

The frame and center panel do not have to use the same construction. MDF is the standard center panel for a painted 5-piece door because it remains stable as humidity changes. Wood veneer over MDF is the standard center panel for stained doors. It provides a natural wood face with a more stable core. Solid wood center panels are also available, most often for stained raised-panel doors, but they cost more and move more with changes in humidity.

Flat and Raised Panel Wood Cabinet Doors 

A wood door's appearance comes from its framing bead, center panel, outside edge, and rail and stile widths. Eagle's named styles combine those choices into established profiles, while the center panel determines whether the finished door is flat or raised.

Boston Shaker is Eagle's most popular wood door style. Providence, Hartford, Portsmouth, Nantucket, Manchester, Newport Ogee, Portland, and Cambridge Step Shaker can also be ordered with either a flat or raised center panel. Bar Harbor is the exception. It is a flat-panel slim Shaker door and Eagle's only current mitered style.

Unfinished and Primed Door Options 

Wood cabinet doors and drawer fronts ship unfinished by default. Eagle machine-sands each component so it arrives ready for your paint or stain process.

For paint-grade orders, you can add a single or double primer coat. The double-primer option is sanded between coats. Eagle does not apply paint or stain to cabinet doors, so the final finish remains with your shop or finishing contractor.

Until the doors are finished and installed, store them flat in a climate-controlled space. Avoid garages, basements, and other areas with large temperature or humidity swings. See Eagle's unfinished cabinet doors and primed cabinet doors for more finish-specific information.

Order Doors Built for the Job 

Submit the finished width and height of each door or drawer front, not the cabinet-opening dimensions. Eagle builds to the product size on the order, so your shop is responsible for determining the overlay, inset clearance, and final fit. Use the cabinet door measuring instructions before submitting sizes.

Hinge boring is available for cabinet doors. Eagle can recommend the boring setup and hinge for the application details you provide. Drawer fronts and panels do not receive hinge boring. Review the hinge boring options before ordering if you need a specific configuration.

Every quote and order is reviewed by three team members. If an entry appears unclear or nonstandard, Eagle contacts you before production.

Typical production time for doors and drawer fronts is about 1.5 to 2 weeks, with about one additional week for primed orders. Current lead time is included with the quote and order acknowledgment. There is no minimum order, so you can request one replacement door or a full project through the Doors Order Form.
